Get to Know the Instructor
Hey EVERYONE, if you haven’t already met me in the coffee shop, or in the surf line-up☺️ I’m Alison, the newest Yoga Instructor here in town, among my friends of whom have been practicing the for last years —Aynsley, Kalina, Nicole, Laraé, Claudia, and Angie.
In December 2021, I completed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training with SOYA (South Okanagan Yoga Academy), and am registered with Yoga Alliance😀. Already geeking out on learning more and more, I have started taking CE’s (Continuing Education Classes).
First year after completing the courses, I spent creating lesson plans and practicing them not only on my poor husband, but on friends as well.🤣
NOW… I’ve got three years of teaching under my belt😁. I have been fortunate that my friend, Kalina has let me use her studio space for the last two seasons of practice🤗, and am glad to say…. I will be continuing to teach there at the same location this year..
To get there, take the main street Veracruz into town, once you get to the point you have to take a left or right (at the BIG Perota tree), hang a left, after Hotel Sand’s on the right is her studio Buena Onda Yoga Center😉
As far as knowing what to expect when coming to my class… Here is the skinny☺️
Every class begins with a theme. —Could be focused on a particular muscle group, a particular pose we are trying to better, help us to gain energy for our day, connect to way of being; like Be Humble, or to simply calm the mind.
And because yoga is more than working on flexibility, strength, and balance; it is a tool to help us become more present, focused, and overall less stressed HEALTHIER. —The first 10 minutes we try to connect to both our body and mind through a variety of practices. 1) Checking which side of our nervous system we are working with through gauging which nostril is more open. 2) Practicing a little Pranayama, breath work, and 3) A little meditation.
Then I begin a lovely littlemusic playlist😊 as we move into a 10 minute warm up. —Focusing on the areas that we will be our target poses.
Then comes our 20 minute Asana practice, where we move through a variety of poses including; a forward fold, a backbend, a sidebend, inversion, twist, and balance.
Slowing down with a 10 minute cool down, that includes some gentle postures like Happy Baby.
Lastly, we enter a 10 minute Savasana, where we surrender into JUST BEING, letting our bodies digest our practice and relax, stilling the mind, and hopefully entering a deep state of conscious awareness sleep —awake, but completely rested.
Ending the practice with a Check In, once again… connecting to our body and mind —being fully present and honest with ourselves where we are. —Which should make us feel better and help aid in being more compassionate to ourselves and other people.
—Feeling good🥰
I really hope you come to a class and feel it out! And….please I love feedback☺️ so I can improve and get a better being a new instructor and all😀
